Quotes on the Majority

“I have no interest in being in the majority. I am only interested in speaking the truth. The truth as determined by the evidence and the facts. A truth driven by Rationality and Reasoning.”
 - Mark Dawson

The majority’s opinions or beliefs hold no weight for me, as it is often formed by ignorance or biases. As a result, I often find myself in the minority of opinion or belief. So be it! When I find myself in the minority, or just standing alone, I often comfort myself by remembering the Quotes on the Majority on this webpage. And when I find myself in the majority, I remember the words of wisdom of Samuel Clemens:

“Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect.”
 - Mark Twain

“A man dies when he refuses to stand up for that which is right.
A man dies when he refuses to stand up for justice.
A man dies when he refuses to take a stand for that which is true.”
- Dr Martin Luther King Jr

“A man with God is always in the majority.”
 - John Knox

“As for our majority... one is enough.”
 - Benjamin Disraeli

“Before I can live with other folks I've got to live with myself. The one thing that doesn't abide by majority rule is a person's conscience.”
 - Harper Lee

“Before success comes in any man's life, he's sure to meet with much temporary defeat and, perhaps some failures. When defeat overtakes a man, the easiest and the most logical thing to do is to quit. That's exactly what the majority of men do.”
 - Napoleon Hill

“Columbus did not seek a new route to the Indies in response to a majority directive.”
 - Milton Friedman

“Courage is not limited to the battlefield or the Indianapolis 500 or bravely catching a thief in your house. The real tests of courage are much quieter. They are the inner tests, like remaining faithful when nobody's looking, like enduring pain when the room is empty, like standing alone when you're misunderstood.”
 - Charles R. Swindoll

“Freedom of speech and thought matters, especially when it is speech and thought with which we disagree. The moment the majority decides to destroy people for engaging in thought it dislikes, thought crime becomes a reality.”
 - Ben Shapiro

“If you are neutral in situations of injustice, you have chosen the side of the oppressor. If an elephant has its foot on the tail of a mouse and you say that you are neutral, the mouse will not appreciate your neutrality.”
 - Archbishop Desmond Tutu

“In a democracy, the majority of the citizens is capable of exercising the most cruel oppressions upon the minority.”
 - Edmund Burke

“In any great organization it is far, far safer to be wrong with the majority than to be right alone.”
 - John Kenneth Galbraith

“In matters of conscience, the law of the majority has no place.”
 - Mahatma Gandhi

“In Republics, the great danger is, that the majority may not sufficiently respect the rights of the minority.”
 - James Madison

“Individual rights are not subject to a public vote; a majority has no right to vote away the rights of a minority; the political function of rights is precisely to protect minorities from oppression by majorities (and the smallest minority on earth is the individual).”
 - Ayn Rand

“It does not take a majority to prevail... but rather an irate, tireless minority, keen on setting brushfires of freedom in the minds of men.”
 - Samuel Adams

“It does not take a majority to prevail... but rather an irate, tireless minority, keen on setting brushfires of freedom in the minds of men.”
 - Samuel Adams

“It doesn't take a majority to make a rebellion; it takes only a few determined leaders and a sound cause.”
 - H. L. Mencken

“It is not worth an intelligent man's time to be in the majority. By definition, there are already enough people to do that.”
 - G. H. Hardy

“Majority rule only works if you're also considering individual rights. Because you can't have five wolves and one sheep voting on what to have for supper.”
 - Larry Flynt

“Never be afraid to stand with the minority when the minority is right, for the minority which is right will one day be the majority.”
 - William Jennings Bryan

“One and God make a majority.”
 - Frederick Douglass

“One man with courage is a majority.”

 - Haile Selassie

“To sin by silence when they should protest makes cowards of men.”
 - Ella Wheeler Wilcox

“Washing one’s hands of the conflict between the powerful and the powerless means to side with the powerful, not to be neutral.”
 - Paulo Freire

“We must always take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented. The opposite of love is not hate, it’s indifference.”
 - Elie Wiesel

“What is the source of our first suffering? It lies in the fact that we hesitated to speak. It was born in the moment when we accumulated silent things within us.”
